The Crystal Water Guide: How to Make the Most of Earth’s Life-Giving Energy
Posted by Heather McConnell on 25th May 2021
Water is everywhere. It makes up 71% of the planet and 60% of the human body, and it is the biological prerequisite for life. Keeping hydrated is important for every living being on Earth. It keeps your body working properly; from detoxifying to maintaining healthy skin to preventing fatigue, water is crucial.
The Science Behind Crystal Water
Because water is so important, we’re always looking for ways to maximize its benefits. You’ve seen Vitamin Water and Smart Water. But did you know that crystals can naturally impart their properties to water? Dr. Masaru Emoto’s groundbreaking research, published in his book, The Hidden Messages in Water, confirmed what natural healers have known for centuries: water is a conduit for energy. Vibrations affect water, and they can alter the water’s structure for up to a month!
This scientific property allows crystals to charge water. When you drink or use crystal water, you receive water’s natural benefits as well as the stone’s. Crystal water is an easy way to boost your daily routine, leaving yourself energized and ready to achieve your dreams!
How to Make Crystal Water
Crystal water is very simple to make! There are two preparation methods: direct and indirect. Some crystals are soluble or contain minerals that are not safe to ingest. We will discuss some of our favorite stones for crystal water and their appropriate methods, but be sure to do your research! If you are ever in doubt, use the indirect method. Both the direct and indirect methods are equally effective at channeling the crystal’s benefits.
The Direct Method
For the direct method, it is best to use tumbled stones, as raw crystals may have delicate, breakable pieces.
Most Quartz varieties, such as Clear Quartz, Amethyst, Aventurine, Carnelian, Citrine, and Rose Quartz, are great candidates for the direct method. Shungite is regularly used for water purification, and it has the added benefits of grounding, protection, and spiritual awareness.
To make your crystal water, you will need:
- A covered pitcher or jar
- Water
- Water-safe crystals
To begin, clear your crystals by running them through water. Some healers recommend soaking your crystals in cold salt water for up to three days.
Next, place your chosen crystal at the bottom of the pitcher and fill it with water. Cover and let the mixture rest for twenty-four hours so that water can fully absorb the stone’s properties. To supercharge your crystal water, we recommend placing the pitcher somewhere where it can absorb sun or moonlight.
After twenty-four hours, your crystal water is ready! Have a refreshing glass, water your plants, or place some in your pet’s water bowl.
The Indirect Method
The indirect method follows many of the same steps as the direct method with one crucial difference: the crystals never touch the water.
For the indirect method, you will need:
- A covered pitcher or jar
- Water
- Any crystal
To begin, clear your crystals with a non-water-based method. You can use whatever technique is your favorite, from soundwaves to moonlight to a ring of salt.
Next, fill your pitcher with water. Cover and place it somewhere it can absorb the crystals’ energy undisturbed. Just like the direct method, you may want to leave your pitcher in the sun or moonlight. Once your pitcher is situated, surround it with crystals. You can place them around or on top of the pitcher. You may even place the crystals in a water proof container that sits in the water. Let the mixture rest for twenty-four hours, and then it is ready to use!
Crystal Caution List
Which crystals are not water safe? Generally, any stone that contains mercury, copper, aluminum, or lead should not be placed in water. The following list is not comprehensive, and you should research stones yourself before using them. Remember, if you are ever unsure, use the indirect method!

How to Use Crystal Water
There are so many ways to use your crystal water! Of course, there is the obvious method: drinking. Your crystal water will keep you hydrated and balanced on a physical, mental, and emotional level. You may notice that the water has a different taste or texture. It might be earthier or even sweeter than you are used to. As Dr. Emoto’s research demonstrated, the crystal’s energy changes the water, so these effects are totally normal!
You can also add it to your pet’s water bowl or use it to water your plants. For more information on the best crystals to help your non-human friends, check out our articles, Crystal Water for Pets and Water Your Plants with Charged Crystal Infused Water!
